PLAYOFF ROUND 1
Broncos vs. Colts

It Was On!
This has been a different kind of season for the 2008 senior Broncos. For the coaches, the only game day challenges have been: 1) Keeping the score within the league mandated 40 point margin of victory. 2) With the quick strike capability of this offense; managing the minimum play requirements (even for the starters).
Then there has also been the challenge of keeping the players’ focus while they have yet to be truly tested on Saturday.
By kick-off of Saturday’s tilt with the formerly undefeated Patriots, there was a new-found level of intensity. A passion and fierceness that not been seen thus far this year. Something had fired up the Broncos like never before. The early result was a 34-6 halftime lead.
The day started out like every other Saturday. The players and coaches showed up in workmanlike fashion; simply intent on victory and clinching the # 1 seed in the playoffs. Immediately after weigh-in coach Peebles gathered the players and issued a challenge. He challenged them to raise their level of passion and intensity. He wanted to send the Patriots a message; one that would set the tone for what would be a likely playoff match-up. With the Broncos taking a knee on their final extra point attempt, the final score was set at 46-6. The message was delivered loud and clear.
When asked what had the team so fired up, coach Peebles would only say that the team needed a spark and the Patriots provided it.
Total Devastation!
Before the Bronco defense took the field, they’d been spotted to a 12-0 lead. As has been the case all year, that would be all they’d need. The Patriots pulled out the entire playbook. However, the smothering Bronco D had every answer.
The Pats did manage to score the only TD on the season against this group, but for the rest of the game, the defense met the challenge issued to them by their coach.
Led by the intense pressure provided by Jason York, Ethan Johnson, Theo Inman, and Jordan Lawrence, Coach Ned’s crew grounded the Patriots aerial attack and snuffed out their attempts at trickeration.
Missing the Train…
The Broncos managed to score 46 points on a team that had given up less than 20 points on the season. And they did it without their starting tailback and battering ram, D’Von “D-Train” Boyd. Imagine what it will be like when the D-Train returns… Hurry back, Big Booooy!

The Broncos spread the wealth on offense. The 2-deep set of Pats’ was testimony to their recognition of the Broncos’ top scoring threat, Chris Howard. While Chris got his TD’s, the Broncos struck with the hard running of Jordy Foreman and lightning quickness of Mack Odom as well. They scored on the ground and in the air. The Patriots never knew from where it would come. They just got to watch it happen.
Next Up, the Jets!
The Broncos take the field next week against the Jets. At stake is their second undefeated regular season. While that provides certain motivation, the Broncos remain fixed on finishing their four year journey at the top of the heap. This team started as freshmen with a losing record of 3 wins against 6 losses. The next season, they ended 8 yards shy of the Super Bowl. As juniors, they were 2 points shy of the championship. This year, for this team, satisfaction can only come with a championship.
For every other team, know this: You’re standing on the tracks and the train is coming!
